This is not just about building the track and expanding your business empire. No, this time you have to employ your own exploration teams, sending them out in to the unknown world to scout. To discover new economic opportunities, since at the start of the game only your starting area is visible you immediately have to start sending out scouting parties. While your scouting party is moving around the map you will see discoveries pop-up, if you can reach these points before you lose the trail you could find yourself with discoveries that yield a cash bonus (a geologist in your party would increase the chances of these rumours).

Now these scouting parties can be made up of various characters:
# *Basic professions are vital to expand your territory/business;
*Pioneers are essential for exploring new areas
Prospectors are needed to exploit newly found resources
Rafts men and Balloonists are required to cross natural barriers; rivers and mountains
*Hazardous professions are crucial for removing natural hazards such as dangerous animals or people that are in an area you wish to place your track;
Trappers (animals), Gunslingers (other gunslingers) and Indians (you guessed it, Indians). Once the danger is removed though, you lose that professional.
*Specialists are expensive to hire, but are valuable;
*Cooks are necessary to increase your team from 4 members up to the maximum 8.
*Geologists give your team information regarding deposits of precious metals and other treasures.
*Cartographers expand the area your pioneer can uncover at any one time.
